Online Banking Customer Insights

1. ---- Thank you for the reply - same solution we EVENTUALLY got to with phone support after trying a whole bunch of other stuff but it did work in the end - I'll change my review to a more proper full-app review of at least 4 stars since the app has been great in all other ways (well almost all, there are a few little things I wish that it would do that can only really be done on the desktop login like checking details of [e-]transfers on top of just being able to send them)... and of course since it isn't the app's fault that Android 12 changed something that makes your lives more difficult - hopefully you'll find a workaround (or the ability to make it easier to understand in a targeted enough way that it isn't MORE confusing of course) that is satisfactory and avoids this frustration! Thanks again.The app works for what it is intended.

Would have been great to have 2 separate apps, one for my personal finances and one for my business but doesn't look like that is going to happen now.Installation and biometric setup process, even with phone help, is so frustratingly stupid and not at all working over and over and over and over.

3. If you're trying to set up biometric authentication through BMO's strange text system, you'll learn, after a frustrating 30 minutes of trying, that it flat out doesn't work (and cannot be setup from within the app).

4. IF the app will even open and let me sign in, it doesn't work properly, and features and functions are sometimes missing, including biometrics.

5. When doing pair process, the link from my sms doesn't open the app but only shows an intercept page to download the app (I already have the app installed).

6. For my case I am using pixel 5 and once I login to the app it goes full screen and not allowing me to press the options button and or sign out.

7. One you open the app, there's a blinking orange icon to click on for it, but a push notification would be very helpful (sifting through dozens of apps to find this one is a bit ridiculous in 2023).

8. Not only does it give you no direction for customer and user id criteria, but as soon as I go to type in my card number, the app itself restarts and freezes after on the splash screen and has been doing it repeatedly since I installed.

9. This app does not send a push notification when a biometric login is required for payments initiated on PC web browser.

10. This functionality exists on iOS, but doesn't seem to work on the Android app.

11. Every time I need to open it up for biometric verification of withdrawals from my business account, it fails.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Online Banking Issues

1. Fix Online Banking Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Online Banking: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Online Banking App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Online Banking" » Open Online Banking for Business » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Online Banking » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Online Banking for Business app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Online Banking servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Online Banking for Business" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Online Banking app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Online Banking might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Online Banking. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Online Banking then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Online Banking not working


2. Fix Online Banking Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Online Banking be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Online Banking not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Online Banking may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
