1. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) CHAMPVA mobile application (app) is designed for medical service providers (VA and private practice) and beneficiaries as they plan care and medical procedures.

2. The CHAMPVA app uses several different medical code sets to determine if services and/or equipment are covered.

3. The Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes, which provide a standardized coding system for describing the specific items and services provided in the delivery of health care.

4. Once a desired medical code is identified, a patient or provider may select it to determine if it is Covered by CHAMPVA.

5. The Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA), is for individuals who are either the spouse or children of a disabled Veteran, or the surviving spouse or child of a Veteran who has died AND do not qualify for TRICARE.

6. Durable Medical Equipment (DME) codes refer to equipment that can withstand repeated use, is primarily used to serve a medical purpose, is generally not useful in the absence of an illness or injury and is appropriate for use in the home.

1. Just as useless as calling to ask about coverage.I have a s9+ it downloaded fine I was able to pull up the code page not sure why others are having problemsHave not used, i had najor issues logging and setting up account.I was requested by the VA to download CHAMPVA PAY on my phone but for some reason I can’t pick the type of device I’m using.

2. Of course everyone takes Medicare, and of course undocumented aliens get treatment.I input the code and my answer pops up! Being trained in coding makes it very easy to navigate this app.

3. Does not recognize that I accepted the EULA terms on my Galaxy phone.

4. As an after thought, try to find providers in Palm Beach County that actually accept Champva.

5. At least the apps for the veterans allow you to send emails and stuff.

6. But not their family?Not helpful, since I don't have a degree in medical coding.

7. Does not work as advertised.

8. Thank you to the developers at the VA!!This app is useless.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Family Medical Issues

1. Fix Family Medical Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Family Medical: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Family Medical App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Family Medical" » Open Family Medical - CHAMPVA » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Family Medical » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Family Medical - CHAMPVA app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Family Medical servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Family Medical - CHAMPVA" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Family Medical app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Family Medical might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Family Medical. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Family Medical then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Family Medical not working


2. Fix Family Medical Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Family Medical be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Family Medical not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Family Medical may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
