XProtect Customer Insights

1. Android screenshots are still blocked!Mobile server crashes every time when I try and open a video stream on web or in in the app, (same problem on other devices and server machines)tried tinkering with many settings incl not limiting playback streams.

2. The server side hotfixes have resolved the camera connection loss issue, but recording playback is still extremely slow and the app keeps freezing, even on our LAN connection.

3. Live view coming up with "connection lost" and playback simply does not work.

4. The windows server and client experience is perfect, I think the mobile server and client experience needs work.

5. If I enter playback, I can view the playback with video present spanning where the live view claims the connection was lost.

6. Won't work on wifi or data keeps saying can't connect to server.

7. So many disappointed users, Milestone really need to test better before rushing out a new version.This latest release seems to be rushed, it appears to be released without thorough testing.

8. Will only work on the same wifi it's connected too defeats the purpose of having themBack to 1 star because I can't take snapshots on my S20+ even after granting storage permission.

9. My workaround has been to create an action to restart the mobile server service, and also set it to restart every hour.

10. It says no recordings found in most cases.When the app performed its latest update it is full of bugs and does not work correctly.

11. Live view keeps showing "connection lost" on one or more feeds.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix XProtect Issues

1. Fix XProtect Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart XProtect: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the XProtect App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "XProtect" » Open XProtect® Mobile » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for XProtect » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear XProtect® Mobile app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from XProtect servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "XProtect® Mobile" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check XProtect app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, XProtect might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall XProtect. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall XProtect then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing XProtect not working


2. Fix XProtect Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make XProtect be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to XProtect not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, XProtect may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
