The General Customer Insights

1. But if the print wasn't on option on my phone, like it is with so many phones, then others are probably having that issue too...Also paper copies should be an option.The commercials do make it seem silly, but The General has been the best insurance I've had, I was previously under State Farm and one other.

2. The phone app is great, so making a payment is super easy, and if you ever have to show proof of insurance, The General has your back.

3. Highly recommend.The application is easy to navigate and The General has great customer service, including the automated features.

5. So this is really cool! 😎 But so far so good!Actually the best car insurance I've had in a while and has 12 month policies.

6. I only gave the app itself 4 stars though because the PDF file doesn't open in the newest form of Android 8.0.0 on my device and had to call instead to get the proper file sent via email.

7. The app is very user friendly and convenient that it allows you to download a pdf of proof insurance.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix The General Issues

1. Fix The General Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart The General: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the The General App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "The General" » Open The General® Auto Insurance » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for The General » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear The General® Auto Insurance app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from The General servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "The General® Auto Insurance" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check The General app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, The General might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall The General. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall The General then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing The General not working


2. Fix The General Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make The General be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to The General not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, The General may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
