About S1 Mobile Mapper

1. For government staff (currently available to Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, USGS and National Interagency Fire Center) S1 is designed to extend offline mobile field data collection capabilities not available using commercial ESRI mapping applications and to meet the specific data collection needs of the federal agencies served by the OR/WA Service First Mobile GIS program.

2. For the public S1 Mobile provides offline mapping capability that provides download capabilities for official Bureau of Land Management Maps for Oregon Washington & US Forest Service maps throughout the US for offline use.

3. The S1 Mobile Mapper is a custom mapping and field data collection Android application built by the Oregon/Washington (S1) Mobile GIS development team, sponsored by Oregon State Office Bureau of Land Management.

4. Application includes GPS capability so that you can see where you are on public land even when not connected to any cell network (note that maps must be downloaded to device in order to see them offline).

5. Maps that are distributed are free maps that are already publicly available and have gone through the appropriate agency public affairs process.

6. Additionally the app includes the ability to take waypoints, GeoTag photos and basic navigation as the crow flies.

7. The application leverages each agency's ArcGIS for Organization (AG4O) site as well as their internal ArcGIS Server deployments to distribute, collect, and update enterprise geographic information systems (GIS) information by agency field personnel.

S1 Customer Insights

1. In heavy canopy and ruggedized terrain you may need an additional bluetooth GPS antenna such as Garmin glo to work quickly.This app is great for offline data collection.

2. It may be hard for the average person but to people requiring a specific app for a purpose, couldn't ask for more.On my pixel 2, it wouldn't download any of the maps.

3. The app might have some use if had citìes and streets instead of just major highways.Having worked with GIS systems before and needing to find where BLM land and others, this app is perfect.

4. The set up with geodatatbases and ArcGIS Online takes a bit, but it leads HUGE efficiency savings with near realtime data syncing.

5. Thanks !I really enjoy the use of tile packages and streamlined, standardized data collection and management of this application.

6. On the timber preparation side of a timber sale contract package it increased our operational efficiency by 30-50%.

7. No search absolute garbageFree maps that are better than many paid ones.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix S1 Issues

1. Fix S1 Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart S1: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the S1 App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "S1" » Open S1 Mobile Mapper » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for S1 » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear S1 Mobile Mapper app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from S1 servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "S1 Mobile Mapper" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check S1 app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, S1 might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall S1. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall S1 then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing S1 not working


2. Fix S1 Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make S1 be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to S1 not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, S1 may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.

  • I use to have this app till yesterday, I need it for ambulance calls with direction. When I try to add the app they want password/api key and configuration url , I don’t know these answers
