About CBP ROAM

1. In addition to submitting a report of arrival, pleasure boaters who are not currently enrolled in a Trusted Traveler Program, Local Boater Option, or I-68 program who are currently required to report in person may be eligible for a video inspection.

2. Customs and Border Protection allows pleasure boaters and other eligible travelers who arrive at remote locations to report their arrival online.

3. After you submit a trip, you may receive a push notification on your device to start a video chat with a CBP Officer to finish reporting your entry into the United States.

4. Create a trip by adding travelers, your mode of travel, your location, and contact information.

5. Contact your local Port of Entry for guidance.

CBP ROAM Customer Insights

1. Once the original setup questions were answered (names, IDs, vessel info), which I did before, the actual reporting of arrival went very fast: what vessel, what passengers (pick from the list) where did you arrive, where did you come from, 3 customs-related questions...please wait...and: welcome home! Total time for reporting the arrival, maybe 2 minutes.

2. Id start an arrival request and submit it, then while it was showing 'processing' it would push me to the login.gov website to log in(again?), then when I did that it switched back to the app and it would restart the arrival request, I'd have to start a new one.

3. Entering traveler data and setting up mode travel were straightforward and worked well but the REALLY important part of reporting arrival is so awkward I ended up thinking I was approved but in fact I was rejected via email I happened to check an hour after I arrived home.

4. I especially like the feature of login.gov to receive the 2 Factor Authentication message by VOIP voice phone number, which made it possible for me to do the setup while abroad.

5. App is broken.Fails to handle authentication with login.gov. CBP Roam sends me to login.gov, I authenticate, loops back to please Accept privacy terms and sends me back to login.gov. The application is not usable.

6. An email with confirmation link is sent, a text with one time code is then sent, and a guid-like security code is finally sent to register the device.

7. UPDATE 8/9/2019: New release 2.7.10 fails with "not authorized" after authentication with LOGIN.GOV. Credentials are correct as I can go direct to LOGIN.GOV website and log in OK.

8. Haven't tried to report in yet, but, for the time being, I am saving the call in number.Junk! Worked great in summer and fall of 2018.

9. Never got a video call request during an arrival request, and I made sure I had every single permission enabled.

10. It simply would not work today.Unable to complete sign up process because a glitch seems to cause the password key text box to autopopulate with random letters.

11. Selected arrival then boat Master then all passengers, answered all questions and then submitted.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix CBP ROAM Issues

1. Fix CBP ROAM Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart CBP ROAM: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the CBP ROAM App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "CBP ROAM" » Open CBP ROAM » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for CBP ROAM » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear CBP ROAM app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from CBP ROAM servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "CBP ROAM" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check CBP ROAM app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, CBP ROAM might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall CBP ROAM. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall CBP ROAM then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing CBP ROAM not working


2. Fix CBP ROAM Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make CBP ROAM be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to CBP ROAM not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, CBP ROAM may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
