1. Then they respond by saying I should email them! FailJust two weeks ago, I paid for an annual subscription and despite being logged in on the app (it recognizes my login credentials), it doesn't allow me to read any of the articles because it says I have to pay for a subscription.

2. Maybe I should cancel my subscription...Linked my subscription to my google account, but never applied it whenever I sign in via Google on my devices.

3. In addition, the Star obviously has national reach, so turning off Toronto-centric alerts (like repeated alerts for a mayoral debate) would also be helpful.Absolute trash for those who have Google devices.

4. I've paid a subscription and received nothing for it.Needs to be more interactive and social, easily allowing for comments on articles.

5. Would also love to see a text-to-speech reader available at the top of each article.It's a very good app, but needs to provide users with more granular control for notifications.

6. This is frustrating and needs to he fixed right away.Biggest issue with the app comes when tapping story headlines from my notifications.

8. Read the terms carefully.Search function purely comes up with articles that have no connection to what the single you search.

9. App support shoots themselves in the foot with an inane email setup: They route incoming emails through a third party, which forwards them in a way that breaks the SPF record, so the emails are automatically declined.

10. The app doesn't allow me to sign in with my Google account, ad therefore does not allow me to sign in.

11. If the app has been closed for too long (ie not running in the background), tapping the article notification will open the app but then leave me at the app's home screen.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix The Star Issues

1. Fix The Star Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart The Star: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the The Star App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "The Star" » Open The Star » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for The Star » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear The Star app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from The Star servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "The Star" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check The Star app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, The Star might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall The Star. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall The Star then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing The Star not working


2. Fix The Star Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make The Star be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to The Star not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, The Star may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
