1. Due to lockdowns through each phone system update, the old WiFi mode will only be allowed on a short list of compatible devices. ---Android 7. 0 (Nougat) or later no longer allows WiFi mode even for Verizon phones. ---Verizon Samsung phones (S3/4/5/6/7/Edge, Note 2/3/4/5 etc. ) , Verizon LG phones (V10, G2/3/4/5 etc. ) and Verizon Sony phones (Z2/Z3) are supported by Android versions up to Android 6. 0/6. 1. ---Verizon HTC phones (M7/8) will only work on Android 4. 1 ~ 4. 4. ---Verizon Motorola phones will only work on Android 4. 3 or below. ---AT&T Samsung phones will only work on Android 4. 2 or below. ---Other carriers/phones will only work if they still have Android 4. 0 or below. ---Straight Talk phones will only work if it uses Verizon and are compatible with the above. ---For all other phones, use USB mode or Bluetooth mode instead. *To get around lockdowns on WiFi mode FoxFi may prompt you to install a certificate on your phone, this will cause the Android system to enforce a screen lock and show a security message in notification. *If you receive a message asking for a "password for credential strorage" this is due to a bug in the Android system.
2. Use this feature if you are no longer able to turn on WiFi Hotspot, or if your WiFi Hotspot usage is being metered when you already have an unlimited data plan. Android 7. 0 (Nougat) or later no longer allows the old WiFi Hotspot mode even for Verizon phones.
3. This new WiFi Direct feature in PdaNet 5 allows you to connect WiFi mode from computers or tablets.
4. A new WiFi Direct solution (free update) is now added to PdaNet for connecting computers or tablets in addition to USB tether.
5. However unlike the old WiFi Hotspot, it will require you to either install PdaNet on the connecting computers/tablets or set up proxy settings.
6. The legacy WiFi Hotspot solution remains in FoxFi.
7. If the legacy FoxFi feature still works for your phone, it is still the best solution for sharing phone Internet since there is no limit on what kind of devices you can connect.
8. Please refer to PdaNet instead for alternative solutions.
9. Free edition will turn off after timed usage limit but you can turned it back on, otherwise it is same as full version.
1. However there is a trick that works for me so it may work for you: Enable the hotspot normally and then through FoxFi, click the 3 dots next to the version numbers and click on Run Proxy, you should get the message saying it's running, reconnect any devices to your hotspot and it should work.I live in a rural area with almost no options when it comes to broadband internet besides satellite (if you can even call that garbage broadband).
2. At the bottom where it used to say something about "registered: FoxFi key installed" it now just says "Checking Full Version ...(5)". Clicking on Checking Full Version opens a new dialog box, and if I click "UNLOCK WITH KEY APP", instead of accepting that FoxFi is installed, it says this instead: FoxFi Key: "This app was built for an older version of Android and may not work properly.
3. I did do a software update on my phone where Verizon tied to interfere with FoxFi and so I was able to get a hold of FoxFi support and they were able to do a work around and I haven't had any problems since.
4. If this is fixed, I'll update the review accordingly.Used to work just fine at around 1-5mbs and used to play online and browse on youtube on my xbox one all the time after using it for years, and it takes a lot of data to get the xbox to work online properly.
5. It's useless at this point, so we'll find another solution.PDANet & FoxFi user here, the app works but compatibility with Phones and Android Versions do vary, it works much less on Android 7 & 8.
6. Every time the providers came out with a update to block it; it would not be very long before FoxFi had a update to bypass them throttling the connection speed.
7. I do a lot of camping in the mountains and I'm able to turn on my foxfii in the evening, connect the Roku to FoxFi to watch TV.
8. I am ecstatic my friend recommended this app, I use it to watch YouTube and play runescape through tether using only mobile data!As of March 2019, this no longer works.
9. The wifi-direct works great but it doesn't work with gaming consoles.
10. I'll end up trying it out again sometime in the future and if it's still in this state, I'll be dropping to 1 star.I've had Foxfi for the last 10 years.
11. I had originally given the app 5 stars but after quite some time, the devs still haven't given any updates to support newer android versions.
