About Opal Travel

Opal Travel Customer Insights

1. Overall it's still a great app though I do reckon the times need to be more in sync to the needed bus or train opal public transport.The app does it's job fine mostly but there's impossible task: when I tried to link a family member's seniors card, it asked for verification and one of the fields is DOB which can only be selected using date selector on Android in a monthly incremental.

2. Desparately needs an update to iron out major issues.Generally good! only issue so far is that the fare shown does not reflect your logged in Opal fare type (full or concession etc) unlike the PC version Trip Planner that shows the correct fare.I love using opal.

3. That's crazy click 12 X age (read: senior) times to get the DOB.Very good app extremely useful, although doesn't say when buses arive if you are catching multiple buses, but doesn't really effect anything just a little inconvenient, but overall a really good app easy to use, accurate and free with no ads, can't complain.The app itself allows you to check balance and charge your card which is a hundred times better than going through the website.

4. As others mentioned, any money left on a card when you are done with it is basically forfeit so don't load the card with anything more than you need.The opal app use to be on point with everything from trips to how much I had left on my opal card I would have given Opal a 5 star.

5. Im in charge of my family opal cards and its hard for me to know whos card has low or a high balance.

6. Also if possible allow for opal cards to add up all the total cost of fares of journeys done in a day like you do for contactless payment cards.

7. The only issue is that the app doesn't work most of the time and you are left without any info on your actual balance, cards not charging despite multiple attempts and frustration all throughout.

8. It's very tedious and I do t know if it's the apps fault or I did something to my phone settings? If you could look into this and identify the problem I would greatly appreciate it.Feature request: please allow slider to go all the way up to cover the map and view the whole trip instead of scrolling down.

9. My feedback is the main screen that shows all your Opal cards have been zoomed in.

10. A suggestion on the travel activity section, make tapping on the card switch to view info on that card instead of having to use a swippng motion.

11. But lately when I'm on a trip, I turn off my phone to save battery but when I need to check on my trip to see my progress opals no longer ger there and I need to reopen the app and get another trip activated.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Opal Travel Issues

1. Fix Opal Travel Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Opal Travel: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Opal Travel App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Opal Travel" » Open Opal Travel » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Opal Travel » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Opal Travel app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Opal Travel servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Opal Travel" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Opal Travel app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Opal Travel might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Opal Travel. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Opal Travel then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Opal Travel not working


2. Fix Opal Travel Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Opal Travel be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Opal Travel not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Opal Travel may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.

  • Hi! I am new to opal and I just made this account not realising I was using an email address I am permanently deleting. Due to my information being leaked. The opal card information too that I had linked I set up just tonight was the card my friend gave me so I could get home. I only logged on to see my balance realising I couldn’t get home. I have another account with opal and want to permanently delete this one please and manage this opal card on my other account which I will be using. my mistake too as I can actually get a pension card and just realised this now as I made the account, along with my request for my new card on that account. So I would like to remove this account and use my other account under my email skywhiteside98@redacted. Please and thankyou. I can provide any information needed.
