About OONI Probe

1. OONI Probe is developed by the Open Observatory of Network Interference (OONI), a free software project (under The Tor Project) that aims to uncover internet censorship around the world.

2. With this app, you will examine the blocking of websites and instant messaging apps, measure your network's speed and performance, and check whether systems that could be responsible for censorship and surveillance are in your network.

3. OONI publishes network measurement data because open data allows third parties to verify OONI findings, conduct independent studies, and answer other research questions.

4. OONI Probe tests are also designed to uncover the presence of systems (middleboxes) that could be responsible for censorship and surveillance.

5. You can measure the speed and performance of your network by running OONI's implementation of the Network Diagnostic Test (NDT).

6. All OONI Probe tests (including our NDT and DASH implementations), are based on free and open source software.

7. Openly publishing OONI data also helps increase transparency of internet censorship around the world.

8. The network measurement data you will collect may serve as evidence of internet censorship.

9. Since 2012, OONI’s global community has collected millions of network measurements from more than 200 countries, shedding light on multiple cases of network interference.

10. Run OONI Probe to find out!

11. You can also measure video streaming performance with the Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) test.

OONI Probe Customer Insights

1. I've used it to compare different broadband providers, and have found it immeasurably useful as it doesn't just check speed, but also censorship levels and lots more.Wierd. The old version of this application worked perfectly fine and Flawless even under VPN connections.

2. In the end, I can very confidently say that each time the app said that al least 1 site was blocked and each time a different one when in reality none of them are, thus this app can't be used to check internet censorshipA great way to analyze a network, with lots of results.

3. Thank you!!!Great app... Thank you very much for this app... Looking forward to future improvement...Always crash when I want to see the test resultThis app popped up running on boot, challenging my memory of having installed it.

4. Proud to support open & free internet! 🐙Perfect! Free and Open Source Software, free of ads, free of cost... And a noble cause.

5. 4 times I have run the website block test and in all of them the results were different each time.

6. Very useful tool, I use it every time I connect to an unfamiliar network & abroad, to detect "fishy" interference.

7. Excellent app and support.App seems to be stuck on a screen with fish in a net with no buttons or text and no option to click anything.

8. I found at least one menu defined setting that was part of an agreement being violated: it was set to NOT run if PC was charging ... and I was.

9. Middlebox test appeared missing, but not so; it is now bundled with the Performance tests.

10. This feature was very important for me because I could test vpns for restriction and cesnors.

11. TRUST is a big subject, and you really can't be taking chances. An awesome idea but really subpar implementation.
