Anyway MY TROUBLES BEGAN WHEN I purchased a new card, and tried to charge it, this seemed to go well, my money was booked from my bank account so all was well... so I though When I came to the machine at the station it didn't "know" what I was talking about, The app couldn't "handle" a new/other card number than the one registered in the app is the only thing I can think of)) My problem with the app is: I just spent 20 Euros to charge my new card (which costs another 7.50 Euros) I know I entered the correct OV-card number (of my NEW card) in the field where the card number is requested The "collection point" didn't "know" anything about my 20 Euros, sooo... bye bye 20 Euros Why ask for the card number when the app can't handle more than one card number anyway? Beats me It would be nice IF the app would just have "told" me "wrong card number, it is not the same number as your registered n...

3. best case scenario) DON"T EVER USE THIS APP WITH ANY OTHER CARD THAN THE VERY FIRST CARD YOU REGISTERED WITH IT!!! NEVER EVER unless you want to end up like me, with a best scenario of getting back 2,- Euros of the original 20,- Euros This app is a money making scheme, a grey area scam CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!!! AND LUCKY FOR READING THIS WHOLE STORYI want to add multiple cards to this app and there seems to be no option for this even though all my cards appear on the website.

4. Especially topping up is a very painful experience, it only supports iDEAL (no cards) and despite linking my chipkaart to my account in the app, I still have to type card number and email again.

5. App has potential, but so far not very good.While it is nice to find service point or load more credit on the card, all of that opens the browser.

6. not exactly a fan of putting my card in minus and having to spend a lot more money then needed if I can avoid it.Based on the name I would expect to check in/out with my mobile... Stupid that this is not possible.

7. I URGE EVERY-ONE WHO WANTS TO CHARGE THEIR 2ND CARD WITH THIS APP, TO READ MY STORY ........... My old card, was NEAR DEATH and held together with cello-tape just to be safe.

8. Missed check-out as well as topping up the card are only browser links.

9. If it were possible to use this app in combination with an NFC function for my card I would install it immediately.

10. A shame that, in a time where even low budget phones have NFC readers and iOS 13 enabled access to the NFC functionality, we still can't see the credit remaining on our OV cards by accessing the NFC chip.

11. Another thing: the app does not accept the strong password as suggested by Google (I really would not have guessed that....). Why is public transport usage in the Netherlands made so utterly complex...?When opening app, I get a message that the app is outdated so am not allowed to use it.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix OV-chipkaart Issues

1. Fix OV-chipkaart Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart OV-chipkaart: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the OV-chipkaart App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "OV-chipkaart" » Open OV-chipkaart » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for OV-chipkaart » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear OV-chipkaart app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from OV-chipkaart servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "OV-chipkaart" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check OV-chipkaart app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, OV-chipkaart might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall OV-chipkaart. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall OV-chipkaart then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing OV-chipkaart not working


2. Fix OV-chipkaart Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make OV-chipkaart be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to OV-chipkaart not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, OV-chipkaart may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
