SMUD Customer Insights

1. Something that I would like to see in this app - With SMUD pushing time of the day aggressively, can the app show a color scheme directly on the homepage to tell me if it is peak/mid-peak or Off-Peak based on current time and season? That way I do not have to remember to check the timings to adjust my usage.App not working,says download latest version and will not let me.

2. Information is accurate and I love being able to see our power usage and time of day usage at the click of a button anytime I want to view it.Nice app that shows all the relevant details.

3. It won't let me sign in on the website eitherI've tried logging in for the first time over the last 2 days and it keeps telling me "Looks like something went wrong on our end.

4. It doesn't show anything useful like the different time of day breakdowns in the previous version.

5. Each time I have uninstall and reinstalled it tells me to get latest version.

6. That would be super helpful going into summer with the Time of Day rate - making it easier to save on A/C costs.

7. Why make it harder for people to monitor their monthly energy usage? I don't get it.Easy and Efficient to use.

8. The only thing that would make it better is integration with Nest Thermostat Time of Savings.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix SMUD Issues

1. Fix SMUD Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart SMUD: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the SMUD App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "SMUD" » Open SMUD » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for SMUD » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear SMUD app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from SMUD servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "SMUD" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check SMUD app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, SMUD might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall SMUD. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall SMUD then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing SMUD not working


2. Fix SMUD Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make SMUD be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to SMUD not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, SMUD may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
