1. The speed at which the sky rotates is an obstacle for photographers because when you use longer shutter speeds the movement becomes apparent and the stars turn from specs to streak, the longer the focal length of the lens the smaller the region of the night sky you’ll be photographing and thus the movement of the stars will be more pronounced this results in the need to use shorter shutter speeds.
2. This calculation for this maximum to retain sharp stars can be found using Shutter Speed Calculator.
3. Shutter speed calculator uses the “500 rule” and “NPF rule” to help you to calculate the maximum shutter speed.
4. You cannot take photos using the mobile application, this application only assist you in calculating the maximum shutter speed.
5. NPF rule is more sophisticated way to calculate the maximum shutter speed buts gives the best result.
6. In any Astrophotography it is vital to have a sharp of stars as you can to make any details in the night sky stand out since the earth is rotating its motion under the stars gives the appearance that the starts are moving across the sky.
7. Contact me for suggestions, problems or any type of information.
1. People, if you make apps and rely on the ads to eat ok I dig it, but at least allow functionality if offline.Works for basic calculations, however, the NPF calculator is a very stripped down and a fair bit off by not calculating the direction you are facing, height above horizon and latitude.
2. Please allow to specify aperture ratio (f/2) instead of diameter, it's more handy than having to calculate the diameter manually when using a lens.
3. When compared to the original rule on the french site, this app recommends 12 seconds while the original calculator recommends 7.5 seconds.
4. In 500 rule section, it would be good to put a note about impact of sensor size or crop factor.
5. Allow to save custom cameras (pixel pitch), or at the very least store the last used value, so you don't have to enter it again.Nice and simple application.
6. The npf rule is an extensive formula but when its being watered down as much as this app waters it down it shouldn't need Internet connectivity to run.
7. So, as nice as it would be to have the NPF rule in an app, I will continue to seek out one that incorporates all calculations needed.
8. With all thr information the app is gathering, you can even ask for Camera body and calculate it correctly.
9. I give only two stars because this app will not function when out of cell service range, which happens a lot in the field taking astrophotos.
10. helps calculate stuff very well with explanation.
11. Cheers.does what it says on the box, quite good.
