Slack Customer Insights

1. Searching for channels by name is next to useless on mobile, and half the time I open a channel it just shows me a cached version and I have no idea whether what I'm looking at is up to date.

2. It's not even like I can sit there for a moment while it catches up, I can literally leave it open on my phone and the new messages won't sync unless I close the app, force stop, clear the cache, and reopen.Didn't work.

3. My one complaint is the way it moves a message you're typing into your drafts if you accidentally swipe away from the channel, turn off your screen, briefly leave the app, or even sometimes change your screen orientation.

4. Clicking on push notifications of a message rarely takes me to that message. It's a pretty powerful messaging software, but the mobile app experience on Android is just awful.

5. Used to be pretty great with a few minor quirks but now I can rarely open a message, thread, or channel without extremely odd dysfunction and completely incorrect mapping.

6. But over the last few months I have been getting error messages on about 10% of my slacks saying cannot send, have to restart the app.

7. It's been my experience that whenever I open any channel or DM and begin typing, I have around 10 seconds to write a sentence or the app will crash.

8. Some messages aren't fetched at all and are simply missing, and some messages refuse to send from the mobile side despite no other messaging application having issues.

9. And if I've been trying to put together a long message at the airport and that happens, it is very frustrating.Update: support reached out and later and fixed 1 &2, ty! #3 is still an issue.

10. No error messages, no crash reporting, just suddenly I'm staring at whatever was open last.

11. The search can't find my channels, or I go through periods of time seeing an alert that blocks the search saying "network error".

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Slack Issues

1. Fix Slack Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:

  1. Restart Slack: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Slack App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Slack" » Open Slack » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Slack » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Slack app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Slack servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Slack" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Slack app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Slack might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Slack. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Slack then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Slack not working

2. Fix Slack Server issues & Internet Connection

  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Slack be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Slack not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Slack may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
