1. Gray-Switch allows you to conveniently switch your device's display mode between full color and grayscale either using a quick settings tile (Android 7 or newer), a launcher icon, automatically when the battery charge has fallen below a configured value, and/or during a configurable time schedule (e. g. at night time).
2. The AccessibilityService-API is only used to determine the ID of current foreground application to automatically enable or disable the grayscale mode. No data is collected. adb shell pm grant com. vegardit. grayswitch android. permission.
3. The optional feature to exclude certain apps from grayscale mode requires the usage of the AccessibilityService-API.
4. However, it does not allow you to exclude applications from grayscale mode nor automatically enables grayscale mode on low battery.
5. **IMPORTANT** If your phone is not rooted, you need to manually grant the WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission to the app.
6. If you are running Android 9 (Android P) or newer you don't necessarily need this app.
7. You can also use the built-in Digital Wellbeing/Wind Down setting.
1. To turn the color mode back on I had to reinstall the app. After some struggles with setting it up, it worked! If you are having trouble finding your device after inputting the "adb devices" command, try turning on "Stay Awake" on your device and then turning USB Debugging on and trying again.
2. VLC, Tubi, Pluto revert back to grayscale when touched or rotatedThis app is THE BEST! Like most people, I had some trouble setting it up at first, but after doing that it works perfectly! Now I don't have to toggle gray-scale mode on and off, I just program it to see some apps in full colour.
3. I turned greyscale mode on this morning the "hard way" (through developer settings) and fell in love with it! It's so much less distracting and easier on the eyes! The problem was that if I wanted to turn it off to look at some photos or watch YouTube, I had to go through all those menus to turn greyscale off, then repeat the process afterwards to turn it back on.
4. Thank you for this free app! P.S. Don't forget to turn off USB debugging when you're done! This amazing app is a good example of how an app should be done! It does exactly what it says, doesn't require any more permissions than it actually needs, doesn't have ads or nagging notifications, doesn't sell your data, has a very small footprint, includes usage notes and a clear adequate privacy policy.
5. For greyscale, just go to routines, add a new routine, set if to be manual(or you can add many conditions like time period, connectivity, usage rate, heck, even opening a specific app) and the then to be greyscale on.Brilliant. Can be used any time, unlike the uncompromisingly ringtone deficient bedtime mode.
6. The Command Prompt was able to find my device after that! I've found that app exclusion feature is a hit or miss, sometimes it takes a couple of minutes to recognize an excluded app and turn the color back on.
7. Somehow my Experia(Android8.0.0) won't switch the screen to the grayscale mode in the color space setting in the first place.
8. Thank you so much for making this app for free and without advertisements! It is truly what I needed, and as far as I know it is the best way to use gray-scale mode comfortably.Hi, I'd say this app is great if it worked.
9. Much thanks anyway! The built-in greyscale mode requires going through 4-5 levels of menus turn on or off.
10. Great tool for lowering the draw to your phone as a distraction, while being able to quickly switch back to color when you want to take pictures, watch shows, whatever.
11. That's where this App comes in: Once you go through the admittedly annoying setup (though the youtube video helps and is simple enough to follow on both PC and Mac), I can toggle grey mode easily from the notification menu.
