U-Haul Customer Insights

1. We are so very grateful for their help! The App is Terrible! U-Haul has some nerve to charge extra to return the vehicle at the counter when their app is this Horrible!Convenient concept, but it took 20 minutes to get the rental due to slow system response times.

2. Took over 20 minutes for the pick up process, which put me past the time I was suppose to have already taken possession of the truck and they still wanted it returned at the original time.

3. I couldn't figure out why they needed me to drive to the truck and sit in the car on my phone filling out this complex registration - I would have much rather done that a week before from my warm office when I first reserved the truck than on my phone in the cold on the day of a stressful move.

4. But in actuality I wasted a whole hour on this app going through a lot of verification steps (take a photo of yourself, take a photo of your driver's license front and back, fill out a bunch of contact info, etc).

5. The app has not improved at all! Last year, it took 2 HOURS and several phone calls to UPS to get the app to accept the vehicle after we were finished.

6. And that was only the beginning of the process! My husband tried many times and I tried many more! It was so frustrating! We had spent more than 20 minutes and thought it was shaping up to be another 2 hour nightmare.

7. It is nice that the system prompts for pictures and loading them is intuitive.Like many others have mentioned, I had a LOT of difficulty being able to actually pick up the truck.

8. I couldn't view the truck instructions on my phone, which pushed me to the differently- frustrating website.

9. It skips steps and instructions so you would have a rental started with no keys to and no finished inspection of the truck.

10. How?! Then, my return process failed but told me to put the keys in the lockbox anyway, so I had to call to not get charged the extra fee for not doing the return through the app.The app is completely user UNFRIENDLY.

11. Thank Goodness, the team at The Attic in Venice, FL saw us still in the vehicle, trying to get through the process on their camera and came out to help us.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix U-Haul Issues

1. Fix U-Haul Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart U-Haul: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the U-Haul App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "U-Haul" » Open U-Haul » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for U-Haul » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear U-Haul app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from U-Haul servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "U-Haul" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check U-Haul app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, U-Haul might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall U-Haul. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall U-Haul then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing U-Haul not working


2. Fix U-Haul Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make U-Haul be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to U-Haul not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, U-Haul may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
