1. If you cannot choose where to read from, make sure you pause or stop the reader and try this: I found out with my books if you highlight the word by holding down on it, you can choose what text you want to start reading from by pushing "listen".

2. I was staring at this math problem for like 30 minutes trying to figure out how x=12 but after reviewing my friends work I found out the textbook was displaying the wrong text.

3. And of course I have no option to use software that actually works so everything is ten times more frustrating.Sigh, yay for making textbooks available electronically and having text to voice availability.

4. The web browser option was awful because of missing blocks of text, and the text reader reading text that wasn't even part of the book.

5. Doesn't always work, is klunky, stops randomly, doesn't read some passages.

6. Also the text to speech option needs work.

7. Now I'm going back to look for answers to a study guide with questions pulled directly from the text, and some passages are completely missing.

8. There is no option on voice it can't keep up and skips.The app worked great the first day but during that same night, glitches crashes started occurring.

9. I think it would help to be able to choose where it starts, or go back to a section you missed.Very frustrating trying to study the material.

10. It makes me feel like all I have read and diligently studied were all gone to waste...Absolute garbage.

11. Also I cannot see any previous work from past semesters so it is difficult to review.An ADA nightmare.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Cengage Issues

1. Fix Cengage Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Cengage: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Cengage App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Cengage" » Open Cengage Mobile » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Cengage » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Cengage Mobile app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Cengage servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Cengage Mobile" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Cengage app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Cengage might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Cengage. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Cengage then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Cengage not working


2. Fix Cengage Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Cengage be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Cengage not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Cengage may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
