Tandem Customer Insights

1. It's just another messaging service where you can post your best profile photo, and that sucks your time.It works great over all, plenty of people to choose from, lots on the free side, audio messages are awesome, I just wish you could make flashcards out of the audio clips, they let you download them though.

2. I think the correction, translate, and transliterate features were all useful digital features that supersede face-to-face language exchange in some aspects.This is the perfect language practicing app for people who also want to make friends along the way! I really like how much you can customize your profile and preferences to include how comfortable you are with the language you are learning, and what you like to talk about.

3. Something that notifies me for every new message I receive on my lockscreenI like it so far, but there are some definite draw backs: 1.) It's not free, and it tires to trick you into buying a subscription when you first sign up by saying that it could "take up to 7 days" to match you with potential partners (which, of course, is nonsense as the algorithm does this instantly), but you can pay to "skip the waiting line." 2.) You can only add three languages for free.

4. If they can fix the problem with video quality, it would be any easy five stars for the serious language learner.So far so good! It's very helpful and diverse with many active members! My only issue with the app is the whole notifications deal.

5. Nevertheless a great App.The app is good for finding people who seriously want to learn a new language with a native.

6. In addition, people serious enough to improve language proficiency are a minority.

7. They stopped repairing bugs on android tablets which is just a little inconvenient.I like the app, but there's a problem with audio and photo messages (or really just messages in general).

8. When someone sends me an audio message or a photo, I get a notification but the actual message never shows up.

9. I've accidentally sent audio messages multiple times because I would think it didn't send and then record a new one.

10. Also when I try to send an audio message, I have to close the app after I've sent it and re-open it to see if my message really did send.

11. I've been using the app for 3 years, and have reached out to hundreds and HUNDREDS of people.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Tandem Issues

1. Fix Tandem Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Tandem: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Tandem App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Tandem" » Open Tandem: Language exchange » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Tandem » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Tandem: Language exchange app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Tandem servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Tandem: Language exchange" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Tandem app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Tandem might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Tandem. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Tandem then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Tandem not working


2. Fix Tandem Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Tandem be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Tandem not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Tandem may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
