Kasa Smart Customer Insights

1. If I have smart switches or plugs in two locations, in two different time zones, I can only schedule by sunrise/sunset at one location because I can only set the app to a single time zone and location.

2. For each "home"I need to be able to specify the time zone and location.I only use one light bulb.

3. Also for some irritating reason, the app would not sync my devices to my time zone, so I had to change the app time zone, and each product's time zone individually, which was not so simple (coming from a millennial IT folk).

4. I had 4 devices installed and set up within 20 minutes.Not sure if it was a recent update, but I cannot turn off the flood light on my camera.

5. I cannot afford to spend that much time to view a camera when motion is detected, I should be able to view right away, but for some reason the app messes with the internet.

6. Who wants to move the slider to 24 or 26%?I can't remember when it happened but when I first got the plugs and app, I was able to control things locally no account needed.

7. I press the light bulb icon, it says the light will turn off for 5 mins.

8. I have to spend 5-10 minutes refreshing and waiting to be able to view a camera.

9. Previously I had a bunch of random smart switches and plugs and I decided to have all of my devices through one company.

10. Right now, opening the app brings me to my last used light and freezes for a few seconds while I click back to get to the menu and have to wait.

11. 90% of the time when I open the app, it completely shuts off my phone's 4G service.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Kasa Smart Issues

1. Fix Kasa Smart Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Kasa Smart: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Kasa Smart App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Kasa Smart" » Open Kasa Smart » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Kasa Smart » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Kasa Smart app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Kasa Smart servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Kasa Smart" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Kasa Smart app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Kasa Smart might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Kasa Smart. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Kasa Smart then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Kasa Smart not working


2. Fix Kasa Smart Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Kasa Smart be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Kasa Smart not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Kasa Smart may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
