1. GPS and magnetic field information can also be saved, along with details on the rock plane & type. -Log dip & strike or dip & dip direction by placing the phone on the rock/plane in any orientation (using the rotating symbol and quick help features as guides). -Android Wear companion app to view and save (paid only) live sensor readings from your phone remotely on your watch, and vice-versa.
2. It uses the phone's compass and orientation sensors to measure dip & dip direction, or dip & strike, in a single click.
3. The evaluation version is limited to saving 3 records per 3 minutes, and has the stereonet plotter, KML export and custom basemap features disabled.
4. Alternatively, log remotely using a wired headset (paid only) as a remote control. -Launch the camera to take photos while logging.
5. Taking the strike and dip of outcrops with a compass / declinometer usually takes a few minutes per rock.
6. Rocklogger is a geological tool for measuring the orientation of rock outcrops.
7. Notes and GPS data are saved to the log file. The log is saved to a . csv file, which can be sent to Excel / Mapinfo / etc for interpreting.
8. Paid versions can also export KML files for use in Google Earth (Android or desktop version).
9. With Rocklogger, many measurements of an outcrop can be taken in seconds (in any orientation).
10. It also works upside-down, eg for logging overhang in a mine.
11. Rocklogger Unlocker is available for purchase to disable the evaluation version restrictions.
1. Font selection very difficult to read (black with white border); no actual instructions, and many vague program options; opened in strike and dip view, but I could never get back there, so could not use the program; photo option not working or unclear how to use.
2. Concept is brilliant. Not an expert on dip and strike but this App seems to be the perfect answer for easily recording it on your mobile phone.
3. I use Gavin Brock’s Google Earth 50k OS overlay for mapping in the UK.Very good app for doing quick field mapping.
4. Would love to have the possibility of editing text after saving though. An excellent app for geological mapping using mobile phones.
5. Constant random buzzing of my phone vibrate feature is annoying, and drains the battery.
6. Very easy to use and record the location, dip and strike, or dip and dip direction.
7. Can transfer the KML file to Google Earth or whatever.
8. Not ready for prime time.
9. I will gladly pay for this if it becomes user-functional.
10. Geologist here, with high hopes.
