1. The Memory-Map app turns your phone or tablet into a full-featured Outdoor GPS or Marine Chart Plotter, and allows you to navigate with USGS Topo maps, NOAA Marine charts, and may other specialist maps, even without a wireless internet signal.
2. Once the app and maps are loaded to the phone or tablet, cellular network coverage or internet connection is not required for real time GPS navigation.
3. The Memory-Map app can be used as a standalone GPS navigator, but it can also be used in conjunction with the Windows PC or Mac app (free download) for planning, printing and loading up maps, waypoints and routes to the phone/tablet.
4. Available maps include Ordnance Survey, Hema, USGS quads, NOAA, British Admiralty, and DeLorme.
5. Memory-Map includes free access to 1:250,000 scale topographic maps and many other free maps around the world.
6. More detailed maps are available for download and purchase with a free try-before-you-buy, time-limited demo option.
7. Maps can be used on your PC as well as your phone and tablet.
8. Maps are downloaded on-the-fly and can be pre-loaded so that they can be used offline.
9. The Cloud Sync feature allows you to keep the overlay data consistent on all your devices.
10. Support for GPS and Compass sensors, where available.
1. Obviously it's great to have maps on your phone to check your route and it gives me extra confidence that the GPS tells me exactly where I am! I use it to plan long bike rides on unfamiliar roads and I can check my phone to check directions if and when I need to.Excellent app, commendably straightforward to use.
2. I have had a few issues with the wireless ais having to go into settings to change the location source? Since I wrote this the issues with connecting to the AIS seem to have been resolved and I am very happy with the app now and give it 5 stars*****I find this app really useful for tracking my route and also for route planning.
3. I did disable the notifications settings, but that made no difference.I used MM for years and just put up with all the bugs – maps needing reactivation, tracks dropping, displays dropping for no reason, awkward navigation display.
4. The ability to print whatever parts of a chart you need at any scale is especially useful, so you can have a paper copy with you if the electronics fail.Really useful as a back-up plan.
5. The main benefit compared with alternatives is that you have the option of making a one off purchase of OS maps for the whole of Britain without the need to pay ongoing subscription.
6. Show all turns my map into a mess, no easy way to find and display a selection of overlays. This app enables you to plot your position on an Ordnance Survey map.
7. We get into many isolated areas often (doing photography) where there are no roads whatsoever and having the mapping information at hand allows to navigate while maintaining plans for exiting if things go wrong.
8. You find in the outback many inconsistencies between different maps.
9. Beautiful smooth display, reliable, and free installed maps.
10. It can be a bit clunky for amending a route if you want to add (or delete) waypoints as opposed to just drag your waypoint to a different path/road.
11. The ability to quickly shift between different maps is often vital.
