1. Scanning local WiFi networks only works if connected to an access point.Unfortunately, fing has turned into another "Credit Karma", where so many unnecessary features trying to upsell you or get you to use the app are crammed into it that the original point of the app (scanning the network for local devices) has become almost impossible to use.
2. Constant pop-ups confirming if an access point is safe, wanting me to sign up for 24/7 monitoring, asking me to approve every single device on my network... Just let me scan my network and get out of my way! Gosh.I loved this so when i subscribed in June 2022.
3. Unfortunately over the last few years, the addition of ads and feature creep (why would I want social features on a network analyzer) and a convoluted interface has made the app frustrating to use.
4. This last update has stripped out the ability to assign "personal" network devices to people, and thus see a quick list of who is currently attached to the network.
5. So sad.I bought a fingbox back when they were just getting started, and it has been an amazingly useful device, with a wonderful, intuitive app to control it.
6. Sad to see a good tool spoiled. This was once one of the most useful network scanners available.
7. Focus is now on charging for extra features (even though I signed up for the premium service) rather than maintaining a useful tool.
8. The app has been dumbified (I know it is not a word) so non-technical users can click shiny buttons, making it pretty useless for it's original user base.
9. Paired with the Fing Box, you could easily scan your network, identify all of the nodes, and track down issues.
10. So it's stealing contact information? Why would a program basically design for pinging the network need contacts.
11. It did a great job in notifying me of new devices to the network.
