1. Compass Mode (with compatible devices): Hold your device up to the sky for a real-time synchronized display of celestial objects – from star names, constellations, planets, to nebulae and galaxies.
2. Pair your device to your compatible Celestron WiFi telescope, align with Celestron’s patented SkyAlign™ technology, and you’re ready to explore!
3. When connected to a compatible Celestron WiFi telescope, you can automatically point the telescope to any object in the database and view it with great detail.
4. SkyPortal’s telescope alignment incorporates advanced mount modeling, providing better pointing accuracy than other telescope systems which rely on a dedicated computer.
5. Control compatible Celestron WiFi telescopes with sophisticated mount modeling for quick and accurate go-to alignment.
6. Simulate the night sky and plan your observing session with a custom list of tonight’s best objects based on your exact time and location.
7. Look ahead to see when Jupiter’s Great Red Spot will be visible, animate transits, eclipses, and other celestial events.
8. Animate transits, conjunctions, eclipses, and other events with SkyPortal's Time controls.
9. View hundreds of photos or listen to more than four hours of audio narration to enhance your stargazing experience.
10. Explore the Solar System, 120,000 stars, over 200 star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, and dozens of asteroids, comets, and satellites—including the ISS.
11. Learn the history, mythology, and science of the heavens with SkyPortal's hundreds of object descriptions.
1. I've tried multiple devices, all which connect to the module's wifi, and keep getting same error from the app: "Skyportal can make a wireless connection to the scope, but the scope is not responding." I also get this error when I'm not connected to the module, which further makes me think it's a problem with the app.
2. I thought Celestron was the right choice when I bought my Telescope, all change when I started using this app, it drops a lot, does not track correctly, I waste too much time aligning objects and trying to track them for astrophotography, do not use this app.
3. I've tried restarting the telescope multiple times, and uninstalled and reinstalled the app.Update: I am now experiencing issues with connecting, staying connected, even if I forget all other WiFi networks and stop connecting.
4. The round "virtual" knob is too finicky, and the back and forth movements for mirror shift make it too hard to see how much improvement I'm making, I ended up just using the hand controller to focus for the rest of the night. This app has worked great for years, until the December update.
5. The app either needs to manipulate the telescope's alignment process, and be able to pick that back up, or write the alignment data to persistent memory and ask to resume.I'm going to split this review in two.
6. I use the app on my phone where everything is somewhat cramped, and if after aligning the scope I want to goto, or do a search, I might accidentally tap the disconnect tab, and have to go through alignment over again.
7. I really love the app! It does everything well! It is a joy to do a search and then look through the eyepiece and see what it is showing, but the three stars only for one major reason; THE PLACEMENT OF THE DAMN DISCONNECT TAB.
8. The app assumes you don't move your telescope each time you use it, so doesn't let you align with new objects every time.
9. On one hand, the app is amazing for viewing objects in the sky, reversing and forwarding time, predicting future events, etc.
10. Its useless waste of time I have spend so many nights frustrated with the lack of fixing the app and all the bugs on it.Great star app.
11. Because the alignment data is stored in the app instead of the telescope, this data is lost and you need to realign.
