1. The Jellyfin project is an open source, free software media server.
2. Get our free server to collect all your audio, video, photos, and more in one place.
3. This is the official Jellyfin companion app for Android.
4. No fees, no tracking, no hidden agenda.
5. To use the app, you must have a Jellyfin server set up and running.
1. so unless there's some option that I'm missing, music playback is limited when the screen on your phone is off. With the demise of Play Music, I thought I was going to have to get an MP3 player to maintain ownership of my music, but Jellyfin single-handedly rescued me and also gave me even greater control over my media collection.
2. One cool feature is variable playback speed! Amazing for powering through content I feel like I need to watch (for cultural references, etc.), but that isn't enjoyable enough for me to waste any waste extra minutes on.Does what it's suppose to, but is kind of limited on features when compared to Plex, which is what the article that pointed me to this app was comparing it to.
3. However, this app is great, and once things are fully fleshed out for jellyfin as a whole, I'm sure this will be 5+ stars! The app does pretty well for playing movies but I find myself must often playing music in it and the Android Auto support leaves quite a bit to be desired.
4. There's no option to shuffle if I start a playlist from my phone, I can't control playback through Android Auto, Android auto also doesn't seem to resume the last playlist that I was listening to when I get back in the car.Watching from my phone works just fine, but I really only use the app to cast to the Chromecasts in my home.
5. Kudos to the developers, keep up the great work!Love Jellyfin! I moved away from Plex and the only thing holding it back is if you're casting, and turn subtitles on or off it'll end the video.
6. and I'm unsure if this is a common issue but while I don't have a problem with playback in any other condition, I can't seem to get the app to continue playing music even if the screen is off.
7. Any disruption to the OTA signal and you have to select the channel all over again.I tried Kodi, Plex and a couple of other media server software.
8. Each one had major issues, from simply not playing all videos and not recognizing many TV shows, to requiring specific and difficult folder arrangements for shows to appear in the listings at all.
9. Its ease of installation (virtually none) and good looking interface makes it a no-brainer choice for a media server.
10. My biggest complaint—and I think the devs agree—is the poor implemention of music features compared to video features.
11. Only minor issues as well: Sometimes video playback is very laggy and stutters when playing back on a S22 Ultra.
