1. Smaller files play fine but bigger ones just stutter/get stuck every 10-20s for a few seconds.continue to stop working, has a tendency to freeze and skip, play with no sound or not work at all when starting a movie or show quite disappointed even screaming through my phone to the TV it freezes or doesn't work app on the TV does not give me the option to select language prior to starting a stream and freezesI used to use Plex until about 6 months ago when they started pushing things on my main screen that I didn't want and there was no way of disabling.

The 'All Items' screen is awkward to get to by default, and having it scroll horizontally instead of vertically is even more awkward.Was working then it started crashing everytime when I closed it and tried to open it on my TV however, previews opened fine but required passwords everytime ( that sucks), then I decided to do a reinstall, (10.1), couldn't add the server there as it crashed as soon as I finished.

3. if you go back to jellyfin, it will not be marked as watched.Unfortunatly for me, there seems to be playback issues for .mkv files larger than 10GB on my Jellyfin app for Android TV (on Nvidia Shield Pro).

4. And for a server that allows you to host on your own network without phoning home!I love Jellyfin but the Android TV app is kind of a disaster.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Jellyfin Issues

1. Fix Jellyfin Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Jellyfin: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Jellyfin App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Jellyfin" » Open Jellyfin for Android TV » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Jellyfin » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Jellyfin for Android TV app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Jellyfin servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Jellyfin for Android TV" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Jellyfin app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Jellyfin might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Jellyfin. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Jellyfin then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Jellyfin not working


2. Fix Jellyfin Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Jellyfin be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Jellyfin not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Jellyfin may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
