1. The USAA SafePilot App instructs, inspires and rewards safe driving habits to help keep you safe on the road while lowering your auto insurance premium.
2. All members of a household included on a USAA auto insurance policy can participate, with the earned discount based on an average of each driver’s individual score.
3. Eligible members can receive a discount of up to 10% for enrolling and participating in the program, and earn a premium discount at renewal time for being safe drivers.
4. Participation in this program is currently limited to USAA members with an active auto insurance policy in select states.
5. When activated, the app monitors driving habits including phone handling, hands-free phone use, harsh braking, and how much you drive.
6. The better you drive, the greater the discount on your next premium.

1. the score doesn't refresh each new change and when it does its super sensitive and you get dinged even for safe driving skills like braking to prevent an accident with another reckless driver.
2. it counts navigation apps as phone use, which pulls your driving score down; so if I'm in an unfamiliar area and need navigation then I just don't turn this app on.
3. when the drive was completed it showed 3 phone handling negative marks. If I wasn't required to "use" it to get a discount, I would delete it immediately.
4. I was told by USAA that I have to pull over for 5 minutes before the app recognizes that I'm not driving! The latest thing: you can no longer use Google Maps, even if you set it before starting the car & don't touch it the entire drive.
5. And it dings you for "harsh braking" when the alternative is an accident, or "phone handling" when your passenger changes the music.
6. Once you loose points, no getting them back.Doesn't allow any streaming apps running, even if set ahead of time and you don't touch the phone at all.
7. Who is going to drive and NEVER make a phone call using their Bluetooth.
8. App collects data that it uses to compute a score, but doesn't tell you everything it's using and dings you on this secret criteria, which is shady and scammy and deeply unethical for a business.
9. You shouldn't be held accountable for that.Mostly I like this app because it reminds me to not fiddle with my phone if I'm waiting for a long time at a stoplight or in heavy traffic.
10. I specifically start music on my phone and set it down so I don't get dinged for phone handling- doesn't matter.
11. If it weren't for the automatic 10% discount just for having it installed, I would have dropped it long agoThis is the opposite of encouraging safe driving.
