1. Set up was super easy it just worked out of the box, we were so happy we bought 2 extra boxes on sale end of season as spares; this year it won't even connect to the app, can't do anything anymore just unresponsive :( such a wasteThe app would not detect lights at all after the latest update but I found a fix.

2. These bulbs have worked for over 2 years without location.Connecting to my PLAYBULB comet takes a while - disconnecting, reconnecting, turning off Bluetooth turning it back on.

3. Why can't I add the candle effect to any of the presets?Unusable... I used the app without issue last year for my playbulb bulbs on our tree; colour changing features, timers, etc.

4. Overall, it works after a while and it's fine, improvement needed.The app is garbage, it can technically connect and control the candle light but setting anything up is just the worst.

5. Sorely disappointed.I have uninstalled and reinstalled and the app does not see any bulbs this year?? It was never that good and colors between strings has never been consistent.

6. Definitely don't recommend this product or app.I installed all 3 versions of this app and none of them detect the lights, but my phone finds them and connects instantly.

7. All permissions are on and there isn't a location setting as mention on one post someone made who got it to work....Used to work okay.

8. It doesn't find my playbulb after turning everything off/on, restarting, uninstalling/reinstalling and all the combinations.

9. I do not want location services on for a Bluetooth lightbulb.

10. It won't recognize the lights (even though my phone's Bluetooth sees them).

11. And the company doesn't seem to care as updates are not a common occurrence.It just doesn't work.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix PLAYBULB X Issues

1. Fix PLAYBULB X Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart PLAYBULB X: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the PLAYBULB X App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "PLAYBULB X" » Open PLAYBULB X » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for PLAYBULB X » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear PLAYBULB X app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from PLAYBULB X servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "PLAYBULB X" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check PLAYBULB X app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, PLAYBULB X might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall PLAYBULB X. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall PLAYBULB X then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing PLAYBULB X not working


2. Fix PLAYBULB X Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make PLAYBULB X be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to PLAYBULB X not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, PLAYBULB X may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
