1. Having the buy or watch on option in previous versions was so much better! This version is so frustrating! Update...an other options feature has been added allowing for purchases! Thank you!The remote functionally has been buried and you can't make a shortcut anymore, forcing you to go through their ads, and it no longer works to wake the device.

2. When the app loses focus, it returns to the launch screen when waking rather than the last screen you had navigated to, as it did prior to the update - frustrating if you had navigated to the next video to play after the current one ends.

3. Here's the thing, though...I've been purchasing movies for like 15-20 years! I don't keep emails for that many years! Google CS is useless, too.

4. Google doesn't put hardly anything on sale and they have the highest prices on digital media ESPECIALLY when it comes to TV! 2 seasons of a show can be almost $85!!! Google has enough money! You have become the thing you were created to be the opposite of!Most recent version is a big step backwards.

5. And as a side note why does every tech company who responds to user reviews call themselves helping by putting links in their replies? You guys do realize that no one can select the text or even click on the link right? And no one is going to go back and forth between a web browser and the reply to try to type out those random characters.

6. Literally was one of the shortcuts to the app you could choose to put on your home screen.Nice to have everything in one place, but it won't give you the option to buy or rent anything that could be streamed on a service, even if you don't have the app for that service connected to your account.

7. When movies & TV were part of the Play Store it wasn't great but it was worlds better than this! You can't find specific versions of movies like Unrated versions.

8. When casting videos (as I do 100% of the time when using the app) the app doesn't remember what video is playing, so controls to fwd/rev are useless.

9. Dumb way to have the app set up, in my opinion.It's very difficult to watch movies after the latest Chromebook update.

10. It's criminal.It's either very difficult or nonexistent now when having the option to buy a movie or tv show unless it's brand new.

11. I can only hit enter, the center button, even though no buttons are shown and highlighted, then it gives me the option to rent or buy.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Google TV Issues

1. Fix Google TV Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Google TV: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Google TV App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Google TV" » Open Google TV » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Google TV » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Google TV app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Google TV servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Google TV" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Google TV app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Google TV might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Google TV. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Google TV then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Google TV not working


2. Fix Google TV Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Google TV be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Google TV not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Google TV may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
