About Switchmate

1. We are currently hard at work on a MAJOR ground-up rebuild (v4. 0) and would love to hear your feedback, we're listening! - Google Assistant Integration: "Switchmate" action under Google Assistant Explore - Separate from our primary GH integration above we offer limited GH/GA functionality for users without a Power or Zip device! - Voice Control: Use the mic icon in the app to control your lights with your voice, see below for more details! - Widgets: Add them to your Home Screen so you don't have to open the app to toggle switches or use voice commands! - Grouping: Create & control groups of devices together. - Timeout: Automatically turn off a switch after X amount of time! - Android Wear: Because who doesn't want to use their watch to do all this? - API & Tasker/IFTTT Plugins: Per your requests, we're still in the early planning stages on this one but we're working on it!

2. You can click the Microphone icon in the app and simply say your command - voice activation tries to first match by the switch name that shows in your list of devices (and you can change under Device Settings), but if it can't find that it will try to match to the location you selected when you first setup your Switchmate(s).

3. And you can even use "all" to control all switches within range! - Location Permissions are unfortunately required for BLE by Android - we're huge on privacy and unfortunately there is no way around not requiring Location to be enabled on Android because we cannot scan for BLE devices without it, and that is why the app will not function without it.

4. Beyond that we do use location data only when Welcome Home is enabled so we can tell you're nearing home in order to optimize battery (so we're not looking for Switchmates all the time! ).

5. Connect, Configure & Control Switchmate, SWMbright/Slim, SWMpower, Zip, Cube Camera, and our future devices all in one place.

6. The Switchmate app allows you to interact with our full suite of Switchmate Devices!

7. Setup, toggling, setting preferences like timers and Welcome Home, and more!

This data is often cached from other apps and we simply grab that data so in most cases we aren't making new location checks - and that data is NEVER transmitted off your phone/to us at all. - Background Service & Waking your device permissions are also used for Welcome Home so we can ping your Switchmate to let it know you're home without the app needing to be open. - Bluetooth & WiFi permissions are required for communicating with your Switchmate devices. - Android 4. 4. 4+ is required so we can use Bluetooth Low Energy in order to save a lot of battery!

Switchmate Customer Insights

1. Love the switches and plugs tho.If switchmate uses Bluetooth and location service to turn on/off the switches, why does it need access to microphone, pictures, or wifi info? Isn't that an invasion of privacy?? Shouldn't the app just be as simple as possible? And I can't even get it to sync.

2. Alxea and Google support follows the same issue, with the added annoyance of switches turning back on or off after completing the commands.. It would be nice if I could login & control them from any whereDon't buy this.

3. Why does it even need location to sync when I'm standing next to the switch? It should sync using Bluetooth just like wireless headphones.

4. Both of my switches were from the original Indiegogo campaign which stopped working after a firmware update went wrong, just installed one of the new switches and its working like it should be.

5. I love this app all around I have had all my apartments that I have lived in the past 4 years with every switch covred with a switchmate switch and I have even had the plugs.

6. Communication from Switchmate was also top satisfactory this time around as well.I want to love it, I like that the devices are adaptive and can fit most homes, but beyond that it needs some major improvements.

7. For one alot of the devices stop working sporadically, often requiring me to delete the device from the app and reconnect them..which requires jumping through hoops.

8. If this is at all widespread, they may be out of business soon.App keeps disconnecting from the switch within a short time even if I have the switch literally touching my phone.

9. Will have to return it for something that works like it promises.No support for bricked Switchmate.

10. It's faster to just go shut the lights off.UPDATE: Switchmate replaced both switches.

11. I'll try with the power socket device and if that doesn't help, then I'm returning both.Fortunately I did not pay much for the switch.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Switchmate Issues

1. Fix Switchmate Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Switchmate: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Switchmate App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Switchmate" » Open Switchmate » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Switchmate » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Switchmate app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Switchmate servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Switchmate" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Switchmate app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Switchmate might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Switchmate. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Switchmate then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Switchmate not working


2. Fix Switchmate Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Switchmate be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Switchmate not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Switchmate may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.

  • My Switchmate stopped working. I have a switchmate power plug ( DRSM004) and a switchmate switch (TSM003W). My switchmate was working last week with Alaxia. Than I got a error saying "can't find null'. I called Amazon and they told me to disable the app and uninstall and reinstall everything. I reinstalled everything and enabled the app with Alexia. The switch works with the app but not with Alexia. Do you have a phone number I can call for tech help???

  • I have about 15 Switchmates in my home. I needed to repair one and update the firmware. When I attempted this it said battery power less than 20% and replace batteries first, which I did. In the meantime the app crashed. Now the Switchmate app crashes as soon as I press the icon, both on my phone and iPad. Now I have a house full of Switchmates I can’t use. Urrrg. Please help

  • After a minute from adding my switchmate switch it won't find it anymore or toggle it. Also CANNOT connect to Google home and there are NO updated 2021 instructions on doing so. All instruction are for the older Google home

  • I placed an order on Amazon,
    The product was a defect, I put an exchange order.
    I have to return this product, but I have to go through the process of packaging, labeling and taping and take it to the USPS post office, which I find unreasonable because the product didn't even work at all and I would have to spend my money send to you guys.
    Please give me an alternate option to send back costlessly and effortlessly.

  • The switchmate app won't work any longer with our Switchmate Toggle. When we attempt to open the app to switch the light on or off on iPhone, we get an error that says the developer needs to update the app. My uncle is bedridden, and I'd rather him not try to get up to turn his light on and off.   • Mechanism in back was moving up and down.I don't know what I did when I installed the app. But it does NOTHING NOW. I cannot reset device and I noticed it does not fit AS DESCRIBED/ADVERTISED on either of the switches in my home.I have tried the suggestions listed but NO LUCK. I am not very familiar with electronics and would need to be walked through steps. Hope I get some help with this soon as I am anxious to see how this product works. Thank you

  • The Switchmate works beautifully when it is first new. When it is time for new batteries to be installed as the others need replacing, I pair it up the same way in which I did when it was new but it does NOT work the same. My lights DO NOT go ON and OFF on the times I have set. Please advise.

  • I tried to change the times on my switch mates but got this message when I opened the app "The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of IOS". So now I have 5 devices that do not allow me to go in and change the times. I also tried downloading a new switchmate app but it would not recognizenize my device. HELP!!!!
