5. Yes the date is displayed on the initial text thread or when you tap on the message but it should be an option in the settings for people to choose so that its easier to see the date and time without looking for it.

7. But, how come there are some contact colors that are set to contacts when you first download the app, but if you want to change to the color at another time, its not available in the color palette? Two of the colors I noticed are a decidedly default, Google blue and a light gray.

1. Fix Messages Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:

1. Restart Messages: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
2. Update the Messages App. Here is how:
   1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Messages" » Open Messages » click "Update".
   2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Messages » click "UPDATE".
3. Clear Messages app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Messages servers.
   1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Messages" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
4. Check Messages app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Messages might not work.
5. Uninstall and reinstall Messages. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Messages then reinstall.
6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Messages not working

3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Messages may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
