About Palmer's Brewing Water Adj App

1. The water mineral profile affects the flavor balance of the beer (hoppy, balanced, or malty) and also the pH of the beer, and the pH affects how the beer's flavors are expressed to the palate.

2. The mineral salts in the water are the seasoning for the beer, and their chemistry sets the stage for the pH of the mash, wort, and beer.

3. The purpose of this application is to help the brewer calculate salt and acid additions to create different brewing waters suitable for particular beer styles.

4. The water chemistry affects the beer flavor in two main ways: seasoning and pH.

5. Adjusting the mash pH within that range is a brewer's best tool for controlling the wort pH, and eventual beer pH, for the best beer flavor for that recipe.

6. The suggested profiles should combine with the typical grain bill for the style to create a mash pH within the desired range (5. 2-5. 8 @ 20°C) for good proteolysis and starch conversion.

7. Suggested mineral profiles are provided for most of the common beer styles.

8. Steps 1-7 assume the entire volume of mash and sparge water is being treated together.

9. Lower pH makes the beer flavors brighter, and more attenuated.

10. Higher pH makes the beer flavors softer and rounder.

11. The profiles consist of ranges for calcium, magnesium, total alkalinity as calcium carbonate, sulfate, chloride, sodium, and residual alkalinity.

Palmer's Brewing Water Adj App Customer Insights

1. Easier to use than other water calculators and for me better.Needs option to change acid concentrations (there's no 96% phosphoric listed) and the ability to put in integers for brewing salts, otherwise app is goodPerfect for getting my RO water into the ballpark for the style in brewing.

2. And why dont the acid additions change the resultant calcium ion concentration? Would also be nice if there was a tickbox for boiling the source water to remove temporary hardness.

3. Perhaps a software update could include the option of 90% Phosphoric acid (we have this in homebrew stores in Australia) Thank you!great app.

4. My only problem is that you must enter integers for the 'brewing salt' values so everything is rounded to the nearest whole number.

5. gets your water in the ballpark for various styles.Excellent app, gets you "in the ballpark"!Got to buy the water kit $200.

6. Good app, but would be nice to have an option to add zinc chloride or zinc sulphate.

7. It was so good it made me touch the felt.So far so good.

8. Still, it's a really useful appWorks great.

9. Apart from that, the app is perfectUse this for every brew.

10. Simple and straight forward.

11. Once you get that this app is the BOSS.
