Zipcar Customer Insights

1. The idea is great, but the fact that the app has to have internet access to lock/unlock the car is terrible! Have you ever considered what happens to cell phone signal in an underground parking garage? Also, you are only asked to take pics after unlocking the car, and when the car auto-locks because of inactivity, you cannot unlock it again without aborting the picture process!I enjoy this app EXCEPT for the cars I rent that I cannot gain access to.

2. The "convenience" is far from convenient when you have to engage the app and try numerous times just to open the car.This service has made living in a big city without a car much more doable since when I need one, I can simply book one and I'm good to go! It's more than what I'd spend on gas, but less than paying my apartment building for a parking spot, yearly registration, insurance, etc.

3. Provided these kinks are worked out, I would highly recommend zipcar.Highly recommend you add a button "Send Feedback" to the help section so people don't have to report bugs with a negative review! Here it is: I took 3 photos, but they didn't seem to save and the process felt very glitchy, with long waits and a white screen in between shots, had to press the back button to get back to the app, and that's when I noticed nothing saved.

4. I suggest paying a little extra for the premium insurance as it covers any damages to the car.Buggy app that doesn't manage the locks correctly, rental car that was dirty on the outside, absolutely disgusting on the inside, and maintenance issue with the brakes.

5. Been using them over a year now, great service and one of the most affordable rental options especially since they include unlimited fuel with the trips.

I've filed several complaints about this issue (including needing to leave a car on the street because I couldn't return it because there was no way to get the bar back to it's secure parking spot BECAUSE it's spot was in a locked garage)Zip car is a game changer for those of us who live and work downtown.

7. I've only experienced one issue before in the past when their systems were hacked leaving the app down for several hours which was out of their control and customer service still had the ability to unlock vehicles in emergency situations.

8. This has happened to me 5 times now where I've booked a car and cannot gain access to them because the vehicles are locked in closed parking garages or something similar.

9. The service itself is pretty amazing, and I use zipcar pretty much every time I need a car, but the mobile app tends to be quite a bit buggy at times.

10. Fortunately, the customer service is really good.I've rarely seen such a big, capital-intensive business mess up the app they crucially depend upon so badly.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Zipcar Issues

1. Fix Zipcar Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Zipcar: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Zipcar App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Zipcar" » Open Zipcar » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Zipcar » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Zipcar app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Zipcar servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Zipcar" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Zipcar app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Zipcar might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Zipcar. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Zipcar then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Zipcar not working


2. Fix Zipcar Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Zipcar be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Zipcar not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Zipcar may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
