1. As an old newspaper employee with the Times-Picayune, one of the joys of my day is sitting at the kitchen table every morning with my newspaper in hand, and a good cup of coffee (with chicory of course).

2. The Times-Picayune-The New Orleans Advocate is blessed with a host of fantastic writers - In each & every section of the newspaper.

3. Prior to the New Orleans Advocate coming to the New Orleans area, I was a "long" time subscriber to the Times-PIcayune.

5. Accolades to "All" employees of these very fine products - Both the hard printed copy of the newspaper, as well as the "Electronically" produced additions.

6. I have been, and still am a subscriber to the Times-Picayune-The New Orleans Advocate for quite a while now.

7. I like the app, but sharing doesn't not work or the option is not available on article.

8. I guess I will have to get my news elsewhere.The Android version is all but useless.

10. All i can do is scroll headlines in appPlease fix the push notification option.

11. I am trying again b/c I enjoy the app, but the lack of this function working properly is going to drive me away.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix The Advocate Issues

1. Fix The Advocate Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart The Advocate: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the The Advocate App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "The Advocate" » Open The Advocate » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for The Advocate » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear The Advocate app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from The Advocate servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "The Advocate" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check The Advocate app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, The Advocate might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall The Advocate. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall The Advocate then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing The Advocate not working


2. Fix The Advocate Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make The Advocate be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to The Advocate not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, The Advocate may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
