1. The experience and benefit for the schools was much better before Box Tops went digital.Doesn't pick up the purchase date most of the time, even though it's on the slip in 3 places! Also if you have 2 items together on the slip it will only register one of them.

2. I've pretty much stopped using this because almost every time I scan a receipt that should have points, it doesn't pick them out.

3. Whenever I try to scan a receipt I click on the scan and the camera doesn't work.

4. I have to open and close it multiple times until it decides to work and then once I get the pictures it says processing error and to retake the pictures and guess what.....the camera won't work again.I have always found the app super easy to use.

5. Now this new app makes my scan / take pictures of receipts that almost never pick up on all the items, all the while I am forced to watch commercial after commercial.

6. I wasted a lot of time trying to scan a couple receipts and was very disappointed to find out most the box top rewards were left out.

7. Those apps track what we buy anyway, so it would be extremely convenient for those apps to be linked and the info to be sent over automatically! Food for thought!This would be a great idea if they could make their app work.

8. It misreads the receipt a lot.I'll snap the photo, it accepts it and as I read through the receipt, there's often 4 or 5 items listed that I didn't purchase.

9. It's also a hassle to find/keep the receipt and then have such a short deadline to send it in, and the lining up the scanned sections is not easy to do.

10. I use this app every week it has just become a part of putting groceries away, but the last few months it seems to miss more box tops than it finds.

11. Somebody should look into why they can't make this app work because schools are losing out on a lot of money.Starting on 1-27-2023 the app refuses to open.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Box Tops Issues

1. Fix Box Tops Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Box Tops: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Box Tops App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Box Tops" » Open Box Tops for Education™ » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Box Tops » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Box Tops for Education™ app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Box Tops servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Box Tops for Education™" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Box Tops app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Box Tops might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Box Tops. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Box Tops then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Box Tops not working


2. Fix Box Tops Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Box Tops be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Box Tops not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Box Tops may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
