1. But it least it honours my dark mode setting, which is something other news apps seem to struggle with.Part of the point of having the Globe on my tablet is the ability to download the edition and read it off-line.
2. This version has all the basics that I would expect like swipe left/right to switch articles, a top row of sections including most popular (which I wish I could reorder), a bottom row of navigation icons, share/save icons that disappear so they don't disrupt reading, and a very readable article presentation.
3. The app is missing features I'm used to from other news apps, like being able to filter out sport and gossip and other sections I don't care about, and I wish the article headlines included the publication date.
4. When I click on the headline to read the article, it logs me into the Globe and leaves me at the front page, not at the article I wanted to read.
5. There are also very few settings current to control retrieving updates on an interval and/or controlling whether or not to download images.[Update: Suddenly, clicking on a notification opens the app but not the article, rendering the app almost completely useless.] A lot of improvements have finally been made.
6. When I am away from home, I want to grab a copy of the entire paper when I have WiFi connectivity and consume the edition later in the day when I don't have any connectivity or only unreliable connectivity. The Globe went backwards with this version.
7. I do appreciate the recent improvements!I've just moved to New England and never before read the Globe, but I've signed up for a cheap trial subscription and I like it so far.
8. The app no longer opens! I pay a lot of money to read the Globe digitally and as they have an app I should be able to read it there if I choose to.
9. It constantly logs me out, hyperlinks within articles do not work, local stories are incredibly hard to access, and there's no difference between this app and the news paper.
10. This makes it tempting to just read the Globe in a browser.
11. Finally, a good Boston Globe experience for smartphones, so we can all stop with the mobile website and ancient ePaper app.
