1. My reason for downloading the app was to read some documents that will not convert to black background and white print This app won't convert either! Designing an app to use system settings is a pretty easy thing, but some people don't care if things are accessible to everyone or not... Most of us that have visual disabilities, have work arounds that take advantage of built in accesibility settings. This is useful but has many issues that make it a pain to use.
2. It will at times skip text, and I've tried a MYRIAD of ways to fix it (turning off skip settings obvs): 1) edit the epub file, 2) convert the file to PDF, 3) convert to text to remove any epub/pdf metadata that it may mistake as skippable content.
3. App stalls & crashes constantly and even with a paid subscription there is no option that gives unlimited access to the only good voices on the service, and it also doesn't inform you when you've approached/reached your word limit, instead just automatically switching to one of the worse voices with no explanation.
4. Natural reader also doesn't make you pay for the speed of what you listen to, only the voices, which is a literal miracle, because I dont have to listen to long fan fiction at snail paced speeds.
5. I have tried to find other text to speech apps to help with this , but Natural reader is the first one I have never had crashing problems with.
6. But the $18/month price is too high.I've found it super useful for going over essays I've written before submitting them, but there are some issues with recognizing letters or combinations of letters within PDFs that leads to unnatural gaps in the reading.
7. I really hope the developers fix this problem, the app has so, so much potential.I write very easilly, but when it comes to reading what I write for proofreading or trying to read other things, it's always an uphill battle.
8. Edits to the text in the app are not always retained after being saved, and the pronunciation editor doesn't reliably change the pronunciation of words in the document.
9. This can inhibit clarity without having eyes on the text.Despite the fact that it crashes every few seconds, it is the slowest reader you can imagine.
10. Based on every other input I've been able to find across the internet a premium plan is more expensive and offers more than a plus plan.
11. 3) Frequently requires you to log out and in because it doesn't recognize that you have the paid version.Ok interface, little clunky for an ereader but usable.
I would like to cancel my subscription to NaturalReader. It is not something I am currently using, so I have no need for it. Greg Warren 8/27/21
