What users are saying

1. So many times you "slide" to open and the app doesn't register it.You MUST HAVE a WiFi connection for the video part of this app to work! The kiosk falls back to a cell phone call if a WiFi connection is not available.

2. The app used to pop up when the front door "called." Now it just waits a really long time, and then I get a phone call from a non-local number.

3. And the only way to make it work again is force stopping it, and i am standing there in front of the door, doing that!!! 🤬Great idea, but bad functionality and missing features make this app sometimes unusable.

4. The biggest issue so far is that every time I get a call from the device it is through a different phone number.

5. The function i'd use the most is the desktop shortcuts to open the gate/door/garage, that would work perfectly fine before the minor UI redesign.

6. That works maybe half the time, and often makes no noise to indicate to the person outside that the door has been unlocked.

7. Sure there are a few niceties like being able to proactively unlock a door but the core functionality does not require an app.

8. Half the time that hangs up when I try to answer it, but when it does connect I hear a badly distorted version of whatever I say, and an inaudibly low volume of what anyone is saying on the intercom.

9. Before that, it worked well but would be delayed when pushing door open.

10. Incredibly slow way to open your door.

11. No notification, no calls, nothing.Hardware at front door becomes unusably slow on a regular basis.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix ButterflyMX Issues

1. Fix ButterflyMX Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart ButterflyMX: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the ButterflyMX App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "ButterflyMX" » Open ButterflyMX » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for ButterflyMX » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear ButterflyMX app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from ButterflyMX servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "ButterflyMX" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check ButterflyMX app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, ButterflyMX might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall ButterflyMX. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall ButterflyMX then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing ButterflyMX not working


2. Fix ButterflyMX Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make ButterflyMX be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to ButterflyMX not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, ButterflyMX may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
