1. Kiwix is a browser that downloads, stores and reads copies of your favourite educational websites - Wikipedia, TED talks, Stack Exchange, and thousands more in dozens of languages.
2. Imagine being able to store the entirety of Wikipedia on your phone, and browsing it anytime, anywhere, even when there is no connectivity. Fully offline! For free!
3. Note: Kiwix is also available on regular computers (Windows, Mac, Linux) as well as on Raspberry Pi hotspots - more info at kiwix. org.
4. Kiwix is a non-profit and displays no ads nor collects any data.
1. It is stable, the download manager appears to function well and a stable, and the only criticism that I can think of is the fact that it sometimes takes quite a while to load a very large file like Wikipedia which is currently over 90GB.Getting Kiwix to a usable point is time consuming and troublesome.
2. The app seems to need to be in focus to download, downloads keep pausing, the app keeps crashing, and after three days in I finally only gotten one wiki - meanwhile it's constantly harassing new to rate the app.
3. I ended up downloading them via a torrent app and then opening them in kiwix.I downloaded the mathematics content, then put my phone in airplane mode to test reading the content offline.
4. The download function is the only wrinkle, it doesn't work well for large files (the download gets interrupted).
5. Doesn't download on mobile data or WiFi, and my home Internet connection is gigabit so my Internet definitely isn't at fault.
6. There should be a way to control downloads more (sort, download settings, speed settings, etc).I want to be able to set one download at a time by default, for example.
7. I have updated this review from my previous 1-star rating. When I download big files I often get a error that says "Request not successful" which stops the download.
8. Download doesn't start, doesn't even show up in my downloada list, I have to search for the item again and I see there it's "pending" whatever that means.
9. Links are not connected to downloaded content, you need to have internet access to see the page or find it somehow in the downloaded content.
10. I tried to download it off the website but the app doesn't recognize the file when I open it through the app.
11. The app doesn't seem to take me to a list of wikis when I start it, it just dumps me into the first one I downloaded, and I have to dig into a menu to find the others.
