Messenger Customer Insights

1. I get notifications but when I click on it the message itself won't show up in the app; there were a few minutes where I couldn't even see the older messages in the!chats! I have to force stop, clear memory, and even uninstall and reinstall it to get it to work.

2. Service drops randomly, I don't even get notifications at all anymore, without reason or warning my ability to send voice messages and pictures was just taken.

3. Will ignore some audio or video messages (no errors, just doesn't send or get saved), and gives notifications to you while you are in the chat window.

4. The search in conversation function doesn't work half the time, and even if it does you can't always jump to the message you want to, it'll just show a blank chat.

5. It's constantly freezing and failing to load or deliver chats or to show me my messages at all it's so slow and I'm about to the point where I'm about ready to just quit using it and find something different.

6. Recently I've started having multiple chat heads open for the same person, and voice messages aren't coming through.

7. Video and audio calls are pretty good depending on your connection and the person's connection on the call with you.

8. Not getting any pictures, videos, voice clips or any other kind of attachments.

9. Unbelievable how bad and broken it's become over the last few months.For an app over 9 years old, you'd think it would work better.

10. Just get the message that they were sent.I swear the people that work on this app don't know what they're doing.

11. Just "🎤 Sent a voice message."Terrible. I second all the bad reviews.

Steps to Troubleshoot & Fix Messenger Issues

1. Fix Messenger Not Working/Crashes/Errors/Unresponsive & Black/White screen:


  1. Restart Messenger: Restarting the app will resolve most errors.
  2. Update the Messenger App. Here is how:
    1. On Android goto PlayStore » Search for "Messenger" » Open Messenger » click "Update".
    2. On iPhone, goto AppStore » Your profile » Available Updates » Check for Messenger » click "UPDATE".
  3. Clear Messenger app cache: Clearing cached data will force your app to retrieve the latest data directly from Messenger servers.
    1. On Android, goto Settings » Apps » Select "Messenger" » click Storage » click "Clear Cache".
  4. Check Messenger app permissions. If any of these permissions required to use your device's features are disenabled, Messenger might not work.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall Messenger. If nothing else has worked, completely uninstall Messenger then reinstall.
  6. Restart your device. Last, restarting your device can often clear most problems causing Messenger not working


2. Fix Messenger Server issues & Internet Connection


  1. Check network connection: An unstable Internet will make Messenger be unable to connect to it's servers. Ensure your wi-fi is working then restart app.
  2. Disable VPN: VPN can cause connection errors and lead to Messenger not working. Make sure all VPNs are off
  3. Enable background data: When Background data is turned off, Messenger may not be able to connect to the Internet when running in the background.
